I love finding a new favorite restaurant – someplace I can add to my list of “regular” places, where I know I will always have a fantastic meal. Thanks to a recommendation from friends (thanks Paul and Rosalie!), Restaurant Plan B in Asbury Park is the newest entry on my “favorites” list!
We have already had the pleasure of dining at Restaurant Plan B twice, and on both occasions, had an absolutely fabulous meal. Each time, our meal started with popcorn. Restaurant Plan B does not bring out a bread basket – instead, you are served a warm, fresh bag of popcorn. At our last visit, the popcorn was mixed with yummy bits of dried pineapple and coconut. This time, it was seasoned with jerk seasoning (and was completely addictive!) What better way to start a meal than by sharing a fun, social snack?
Our appetizers were truly amazing. Li’l Random ordered the House Made Gnocchi with squash, pan-roasted corn, caramelized onion and scallion brown butter. Mr. Random selected the King Crab Fritters, which were served with a poblano pepper sauce:
Both appetizers were delicious – the fresh corn and zucchini squash in the gnocchi screamed New Jersey summer, as did the luscious crabmeat in the fritters. However, the best appetizer I tasted on this visit was the one I selected:
The Fried Beet Ravioli “Mac and Cheese” was one of the most delicious dishes I have ever tasted! The beet ravioli was filled with goat cheese and Swiss chard, then fried to crisp perfection. It was served atop pulled chicken thighs in a creamy cheese sauce that was somehow decadent, but still light enough to be served as an appetizer.
Our entrees were just as delicious as our appetizers. Mr. Random ordered the bacon and pistachio-crusted day boat filet (which was snapper that night), served with tender, roasted white asparagus, smashed Yukon gold potatoes, and a truffle and caper sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was fantastic with both the potatoes and the fish!
Li’l Random liked the Fajita Pasta so much, she ordered it for dinner both times we ate at Restaurant Plan B. House-made avocado and lime linguine is tossed with peppers and a corn salsa to create a light, healthy and completely delicious dish! I ordered the Herb Marinated Grilled Skirt Steak:
The steak was served with asparagus tips, grilled cipollini onions, and the most amazing yucca puree! The yucca was smooth, sweet and creamy, and paired well with the marinated steak and grilled onions.
The most unbelievable part of Restaurant Plan B’s menu is that not only does it change every six weeks, but in three years, they have not repeated a single appetizer or entrée preparation. The amount of creativity required of the culinary team at Restaurant Plan B in order to accomplish this feat is truly impressive! We have not yet had the pleasure of dessert at Restaurant Plan B, however, I hear the next update of the menu will include Jeffrey’s coconut cake, which I have been told is heaven! Looks like we’ll be going back there in a few weeks…hope to see you there!
