Red Bank Flavour’s Delicious Debut

6 Dec

When Red Bank’s top chefs, restauranteurs and proprietors came together to form Red Bank Flavour, their goal was to show everyone the delectable flavors the borough’s restaurants have to offer.  This goal was achieved in grand fashion at the first annual Holiday Flavour event, which was held last week at the Oyster Point Hotel.  More than 20 of Red Bank’s top restaurants were featured, along with cocktails, live music, an on-site painting exhibition and an auction, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Soul Kitchen and Lunch Break.  The evening was filled with fabulous flavors, passionate chefs and the camaraderie of a city coming together for a delicious cause!

Spinach Ravioli from Gaetano's

Grilled cheese and tomato soup from That Hot Dog Place

Eggplant Caponata from Readie's

My senses went into overdrive as I walked through the rooms full of tempting offerings!  There were so many delicious aromas, sights and flavors, and I believe I managed to sample most of them!  My favorites included both sweet and savory, and included restaurants I have known since I was a kid, as well as some I was introduced to for the first time at the event:

Lobster Pot Pie from The Boondocks Fishery

Kobe Beef Potstickers from Teak

I am a sucker for a homemade pot pie.  The Boondocks Fishery hit theirs out of the park by studding it with fresh lobster, adding a splash of sherry to the cream sauce, and using adorable (and tasty!) lobster-colored croutons instead of a pie crust.  Teak added decadent twists to two of my favorite dishes – they filled potstickers with tender Kobe beef, and served them alongside pork belly fried rice.  The pork belly was braised to savory perfection, and elevated the fried rice from standard to elegant standout!

Coconut Snowballs from Sugarush

Choco-chip Mini Cookie Sammies from Sugarush

The cupcakes and baked treats from Sugarush were not only absolutely delicious, but they were also absolutely beautiful!  What stood out the most for me was their frosting – it teetered on the edge of being the kind of sweet that makes your teeth hurt, but never actually crossed that sugary line.  It was creamy, luscious and exactly the right amount of sweet to make you feel like a giddy child.

A few of Cupcake Magician's YUMMY flavors

More Cupcake Magician yumminess!

You can never have too many cupcakes – or too many cupcake flavors!  Cupcake Magician offered over 30 flavors of artfully-decorated bite-sized happiness!  My absolute favorite was the Devil Dog cupcake – it took the childhood favorite to a new level – instead of the sticky cake from a real Devil Dog, the cupcake was light and airy, with the exact flavor of the original cake.  And the filling! Cupcake Magician has created a creamy, decadent exact replica of the original – the second I bit into that cupcake, I was transported back to my childhood and the excitement I would feel when I enjoyed such a treat – pure happiness!

Caramelized apple waffles from Nina's Waffles & Sweets

As I walked through one of the several rooms full of decadent offerings, The aroma of fresh-baked waffles permeated my senses.  I just had to find out where it was coming from!  I searched the room, and finally came upon Nina’s Waffles & Sweets.  Nina’s serves Liege Waffles – a special Belgian waffle with pearl sugar within the dough, which creates an insanely delicious caramelized sugar “crust” to the waffles, almost like they have been bruleed.  The waffles are ridiculously good on their own, but Nina’s toppings put them completely over the edge.  Whether it is the caramelized apple-topped waffle that I sampled (and completely fell in love with!), or something more decadent like a waffle topped with cannoli cream (bottom right in the photo), these waffles are a tasty addiction waiting to happen!

Red Bank Flavour sure knows how to make a first impression – based upon this fabulous inaugural event, I can’t wait to see what else they have in store!

Craving something different than the usual spirits?

Pisco Portón is a unique, crazy-flavorful, clear spirit distilled from grapes (and it happens to come in an absolutely gorgeous bottle which makes a beautiful gift!).  Unlike most other piscos, Pisco Portón is distilled using the Mosto Verde method, which prevents the grapes from fermenting completely, resulting in an extremely smooth, velvety and full-bodied flavor.  It is handcrafted in small batches at Hacienda La Caravedo in Ica, Peru, the oldest distillery in the Americas (est. 1684), utilizing centuries-old distilling methods in combination with proprietary, state-of-the-art technologies.  It is made from a blend of Quebranta, Albilla and Torontel grapes, each chosen for their unique character.  “Pisco is an incredible spirit that is just beginning to be discovered in the U.S.,” says Master Distiller Johnny Schuler. “Pisco Portón has a flavor that can be described as more complex than a vodka and more subtle than a tequila; excellent for creating defining cocktails, as well as for savoring neat or as an aperitif.

To find Pisco Portón near you, check out their online store locator.
